1. Always Use Keywords
Just with page ranking on Google and other search engines, keywords are going to help with getting your content noticed by the right people. Although Twitter only allows 140 characters, your content is still very important when it comes to gaining attention.
Before you even begin putting yourself or your brand out there, make a list of keywords that best fits your company’s description or value and try to include those keywords in your various posts. With such a short amount of characters, you need to make every word count when it comes to your tweets.
2. Advanced Search Options
When getting started, you want to create a community around your Twitter page, which means you have to find those individuals who are interested in what you have to offer. Try looking into Advanced Search Options. Here you can search for keywords that pertain to your business that people are using in their tweets. You can then reach out to those people with promotions, sales, giveaways, etc. in order to start your community.
You can also narrow your search to a certain area if you want stay within the proximity of where your business is located.
3. Gain Emails
If you have a website, you most likely have a feature box, which is an email form for visitors to fill out in exchange for something. By combining two Twitter features — lead generation card and pinned tweets — you can create a feature box on your Twitter page.
A lead generation card is similar to a feature box in that it’s a simplified form for tweeters to fill out, asking for information like name, email address, etc. Once you’ve created a lead generation card, of course providing an incentive to sign up, you can then use the pinned tweet feature to pin the lead generation card to the top of your Twitter profile. And presto, you have yourself a feature box on your Twitter page!
4. Back to Mobile…Once Again
We realize that we’ve harped a lot about the importance of making mobile a part of your online marketing strategy, but Twitter is certainly no exception. Just as Facebook is taking a turn towards being a mobile app, so it Twitter, which means to you need to figure out how to market to tweeters on their mobile phones.
Thankfully, Twitter has already provided us with the solution, and that’s the option to have your tweets sent directly as a text to your followers. When a user subscribes to your tweets from their cell phone, your texts will automatically be sent to their phone.
Of course, users can turn off these notifications, but if you’re smart about it, they will most likely continue to keep them turned on. And when we say smart about it, we mean not overloading their phone with millions of tweets.
